Manawatu Herald TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1917. TAR-MACADAM AND FLOOD WATER.
THE Whirokino road is very rutty, aud needs attention. This portion of the Foxton-Levin road is subject to flooding, as is portion of the Foxton-Shannon road. We believe it would save the Manawatu County a considerable sum of money in upkeep if tbc roads subjected to inundation were tar-sealed. The force of the flood water, although strong enough to cany off loose metal from the road, would not be sufficient to break through the resistance of tai*'*macadam. The resistance of concrete, of course, would withstand any flood. We believe, however, that the .County would effect a big saving in upkeep if the road was put down as suggested, In any ease, w r hy not put down a few chains as an experiment ?
