WAR SUPPLIES.
STATEMENT BY HON. ARTHUR MYERS, A statement was made by the lion, Arthur Myers (Minister in charge of Munitions and Supplies) in the House of Representatives, to the effect that the total yalue of orders placed by the Department under his control since its inception over two years ago, was approximately £3,100,000, made up as follows : —Clothing, £1,575,000; footwear, £175,000; hardware, £76,000; food, £974,000; forage, £49,000; drugs, £15,000; bedding, £157,000; miscellaneous, £106,000. The total number of articles represented by the orders placed during the period above mentioned amounted to, roughly, 67,000,000. Included in this total were: —Boots, 160,000; shoes, 76,000; sox, 241,000; jerseys, 83,000; underpants, 170,000; undershirts, 176,000; tunics, 134,000; trousers, 930,000; blankets, 211,000; cholera belts, 91,000; great coats, 85,000; pantaloons, 26,000; putties, 146,000; hats, 118,000; shirts, 185,000.
