AN UNFORTUNATE CASE.
GIRL CHARGED WITH MURDER. Dunedin, Friday. An inquest.on the body of an in-, fant found in a suit case in a chemist’s shop on September 22ud, and in connection with which a single young woman, Mary Walder, is charged with murder, was held today. The evidence showed that the girl, IVho had been in domestic service in Dunedin, went home to Lawrence on September 17th, returning to Dunedin on September 22nd with her mother, and bringing the suit ease with her. The mother was not aware of the birth of the child until her daughter had been visited by a doctor on September 22nd. Medical evidence was given to the effect that death was due,to asphyxia, and that with the exercise of ordinary care the child would have lived. The depositions of an inquest, held on May 25th, 1916, on the body of a child of the same woman were put in. A verdict that death was due to asphyxia was returned.’
