CLAIMS FOR EXEMPTIONS AND DEDUCTIONS FOR INCOMETAX. Land and Income Tax Department, Wellington, Bth October, 1917. Notice is hereby given that the Finance Act, 1917, extends the special exemption of £25 in respect of each of a , taxpayer’s children. Previously (his exemption was allowed (1) in respect of not move, than five chikh’cn of a taxpayer, and (2) only when the combined income of the father and mother of the children did not exceed £425. These two limitations are now removed. Under the above Act a claim may be made in respect of each child dependent on the taxpayer and under the age of sixteen, and by any taxpayer irrespective of the amount of his income. The Act, as further amended, empowers the Commissioner to make an allowance by way of depreciation on the original cost to I lie taxpayer of premises actually used in the production of the income. As the returns of income already furnished for the year ended .‘list March, 1917, were made under tlie old provisions, TAX PA YEWS WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE ABOVE EXEMPTION OR DEPRECIATION ALLOWANCE are required, ON OR BEFORE THE 31st OCTOBER, 1917, to furnish me with-the necessary particulars on forms which may bo obtained at the various postal money-order offices throughout the Dominion.
