THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
Hemp graded iii (ii<‘ various ports last month totalled hales, as compared with 11,11)0 for the corresponding period ot‘ last year, a decrease of 158 hales. For the twelve months ended 30th September, 1917, the number of hales graded was 148,079, as compared with 148,010 for the previous twelve months, an increase of 009 hales. For the twelve months ended 30th September, 1917, the number of bale.- of tow graded was 35,004, as compared with 41,121 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 5,457 hales. And for the twelve months ended 30th September, 1917, the number of hales of stripper slips graded was 3,434, as compared with 7.044 for the previous twelve months, a decrease of 3,010 bales. . AGENT GENERAL’S MARKET REPORT. The High Commissioner cabled as follows at noon yesterday:— The hemp trade is quiet under Government control. New' Zealand forward shipment, nothing offering owing to absence of homeward freight.
