PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATION.
IX view of the Commission's report in reference to the altered electoral boundaries, the relation of the two islands in respect of Parliamentary representation during the past 30 years is of interest, and has been as follows: —
Various allowances are made for fractional differences, but in effect •the representation, in recent years
at least, has been almost exactly in proportion to actual population, disregarding- fractions. The North Island now comprises nearly 59 per cent, of the population, and on this basis the forecast of 45 seats, arrived at by other calculations, is confirmed.
