Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, SEPT. 29, 1917. ENEMY GOODS.
DR. THACKER in (he House of the fact that enemy aliens are still carrying on operations in New Zealand. The Prime Minister said, in reply, that if the lion, member would give him particulars of any alien who • had been guilty of any act against the interests of the Empire he would lie glad to have enquiries made. Mr Wilford exhibited a pair of cotton gloves to the House, which had recently been purchased in Wellington and bore the German brand. The matter is to be investigated by the police. Probably the goods were old stock. Talking of old stock, it is strange how such goods have increased in price, whether of enemy origin or not. Goods manufactured in New Zealand are being marked so high as to be almost prohibitive to people of small means. The Board of Trade could with advantage look into the soft goods trade.
