MILITARY DODGERS.
DISCUSSING military dodgers in the House the other evening, Mr Hindmarsh said: “It is very wonderful hoAV some of the young men get a medical certificate because they have a little cash at the bank.” He believed, he added facetiously, that the member for Christchurch- East had come to the rescue of a number of would-be recruits, and found that he had something the matter with his kidneys. (“Oh, ph,” and
laughter). Mr Himlmarsh added that ho believed these young men should be shown up from one end of the country to the other. Replying, Dr. Thacker said the honour and integrity of the medic hi profession had been challenged—it had been said that they had given informal certificates. He challenged the member for ■Wellington South to prove that he had given certificates that were not justified. The member for Wellington South was not justified in making such an assertion. Mr Hindmarsh said he could quite understand a lot of men escaping through doctors’ diverse views. It was absurd to say that he had cast reflections on doctors.
