MINIATURE COMIC OPERA SCENE.

According to the Wanganui Herald, the meeting of the Wanganui Education Board arc .soporific. The Herald reproduces the following comic onera scene:—

“With one exception there was a full meeting of the Board, and for some time previously one member had entertained those present with loud snores. He had been fast aslecp, and was still enjoying his slumbers Avhen the chairman said: “ Tt has been the rule to hold an inquiry into tires in schools, and the matter has been referred to the Government.” (Loud snore). Proceeding, the chairman said he could not compliment the police on the work they had done in investigating the cause of the tires. (Snore, and subdued laughter). To his mind, the police had neglected what he understood was considered one of the most necessary things in criminal investigation —the taking of linger prints. (Another snore, and more laughter). If that had been done the culprits would have been found out. The police simply wont round and made a few inquiries from people and boys. “A member (amidst a slight commotion caused by the sleeping member turning in his sleep) : How do you know that? “The chairman: I have the police reports here. Here’s one of them. (Snores). This gentleman —Constable ■. He seems to have been in charge of the show. (A particularly loud snore, and laughter). He seems to have done great work. He has found out the name of the caretaker, his age, and the colour of his hair. (Loud snores. By this time there was general laughter all round the Board table). And here’s a report by another gentleman in the force —Constable . Fie has done good work, He has interviewed Mrs “At this stage of the proceedings the member who had been slumbering peacefully half-awakened with a start and a loud snort. ‘And that’s what he thinks of it,’ said the chairman, amidst loud and long laughter ”
