Private James Connolly, who has been invalided home from the front, affived in Foxton last night. Mr Wainwright intends to leave Foxton at an early date, and will probably go on the land in the Wairarapa district, Mr Mills, of Woodville, has taken up Iris duties at the local post office, in the position rendered vacant through Mr Baughen going into cam]).
A recent casualty list contains the name of Private Robert M. Riraracr, son of Mr and Mrs T. Rimmer, of Foxton, avlio Avas Avounded on August 4th.
Private J. MeDavitt, brother of Mr P. F. MefiAvitt, of Foxton, who has been invalided hime from the front, and arrived in Auckland this Aveek, came doAA'n to Foxton last night, and is staying with his brother.
Mr G. R. Ibbetson, Avhose death at Wellington occurred recently, Avas one of Ncav Zealand’s old-time citizens. He Avas born at Corfu 60 years ago, and, Avhen a lad of 13, he arrived in Ncav Zealand in the ship Eagle Speed, in company Avith his father.
Mr and Mrs F. E. Jenks, lavo of Foxton’s oldest and most highly esteemed residents, contemplate taking up their residence in Wellington. The family, uoav grown up, are scattered in different parts of the Dominion, one son, Percy, is at the front, and another son, LleAvelyn, is an art student in London. Mr Jenks is an ex-Mayor, cx-Council-lor, ex-member of the Harbour Board, etc., Avhile Mrs Jenks has for years taken a keen interest in Guild Avork in connection Avith All Saints’ Church. The family possessed musical talents above the ordinary, and assisted in concerts and social functions. An old “Herald” file reminds us that our old friend, Mr Jenks, Avas a member of a talented local minstrel troupe, Avhich entertained local and district audiences in the years long gone by, . An old resident of Ncav Plymouth —Mr William Humphries —died this Avock, at the age of 72 years. He arrived in Ncav Plymouth Avith his parents in the ship Sir EdAvard Paget in 1851. Mr Humphries served through the Maori War as a volunteer, and afterwards avus in business Avith the firm of Messrs E. L. Humphries and Co., as general merchants, subsequently being a partner in the firm of Messrs S. L. Humphries and Co., Avine and spirit merchants, He is survived by a AvidoAv and family of three daughters and three sons, one of Avhom, Sergt. A. L, Humphries (formerly a noted Ncav Zealand Rugby representative) is at present in camp.
