MR. ISITT AND THE BAPTISTS.
The Auckland Baptist Ministers’ Association by resolution the other day referred to Mr Isitt’s condemnation ■'of' the Rev. Howard Elliott’s methods of attacking the Catholic Church, saying that it met with their “unmitigated reprobation.”* Mr Isitt has 'replied in the following terms: —
Gentlemen. —I note your “unmitigated reprobation.” That reprobation attaches no disgrace to me. lam sorry that a number of Christian men can be so earned away by religious prejudice as to justify such methods and such statements as those adopted by Mr Elliott. The spirit that readily swallows such awful charges against Catholic nuns and priests is, clearly, not the spirit of Christ. I do not like being at variance with you, but I certainly prefer to bear your condemnation than to be guilty of your spirit.
