ON THE LAND.

Says the Post : Lambing has generally been good so far as it has gone, but in some localities some recent spells of southerly weather have accounted for -a certain amount of mortality, but not on any large scale. The winter, so far, on the whole, has been very kindly. Woolmen arc assured of good prices for their clips, inasmuch as last season’s remunerative purchasing schedule is to be adhered to. At the same time, had it been possible to get the wool away to market 'and dispose of it at current rates, satisfactory as the returns have been, they would have been greater by as much as four or five millions sterling, indeed some authorities hold that the returns would have been nearer nine millions. Good as the official prices may be, and excellent as they are, compared with rates ruling up v to the outbreak of war, the wool is worth very much more in open market to-day than the Imperial Government is paying for it, and this difference, the wool-grow-er holds, represents a very groat sacrifice made hy him in the cause of Empire. Bo that as it may, the wool grower of to-day, with very few exceptions, leans but little upon his bank or broker for financial support.
