BOWLING.

The official opening; of the local bowling green which took place yesterday afternoon was undoubtedly the* most successful and enjoyable gathering in the history of the Club., The condition of the green left nothing to bo desired, and relleetcd credit on the enthusiastic members who attended to It during the winter, and who, with the caretaker, during the past fortnight, put so much work into it. The surface was very good, and the bowls drew avcll on either hand, and the visiting howlers expressed themselves as ’highly pleased with its condition. Representative:; were present from the Feihling, Palmerston Kuril), Levin, Shannon and Terrace End Clubs, and during I lie afternoon seven rinks were occupied, no less than st> players taking part, easily a record crowd for the .Foxton green. There were also about •!() visiting lady croquet players from Palmerston and Levin, so that the attendance on the ground was well over 100. The president (Mr W. Nyc), in opening (he green, extended a very hearty welcome to the visitors, and expressed pleasure at the number that had accepted the Club's invitation to lie present. Tie called upon his daughter (Miss Olive Nyo) to roll the lirst howl, and then declared the green open for play. A -very la sly afternoon tea was provided hy Mrs Xye. At lie conclusion of play, Mr Harford (president of the Feihling Club), Criggs (president Palmerston North Club). Lancaster (president Levin Club), and Gibson (president Shannon Club) returned iluniks on behalf of the visitors for ihe very hospitable manner in which they had Imen treated, and also complimenU-d the Paxton Club on the splendid condition of the green, and accord; d the ladies very hearty cheers for !Loir assistance. Last week, when the special preparation cf the local green for opening day was about to commence, it wit- found that the lawn mower was out of order, and as time was too short to have same fixed and get the green ready for the opening, an appeal was made to the Shannon Club for the loan of their mower. The request was immediately acceded to, and the members of the local Club express their very sincere thanks to the Shannon bowlers for their kindness. The mower was returned to Shannon this morning.
