SALVATION ARMY.
The local corps of the Salvation Array held a very successful effort in aid of the Self-Denial Fund, in the Army Hall on Thursday evening. The effort look the form of a gift and musical entertainment. Every purchaser of an admission ticket received a gift —there wore no blanks —and Avere also entertained with a capital musical and instrumental programme. There Avas a large attendance, and everyone got their full money’s worth. Capt. Campbell delivered a short address, and introduced the Mayor (Mr Chrystall), who paid a fine tribute to the Army’s work. Mr Ebbelt’s orchestra contributed some excellent instrumental selections. A solo by Miss Ebbett and chorhs was ranch appreciated, as was a welldelivered recitation by Lieut. Axe. The dcstribution of prizes created interest and amusement. The Avhole affair reflected credit upon the enthusiasm and organisation of the lavo lassies in charge, and the financial results exceeded expectations.
