MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The regular meeting of the Manawatu County Connell was held at Sansbn on Tuesday. Present: Crs Sir Jas. Wilson (chairman), H. H. Hunt, W T . J. Phillips, B. Gray, W. E. Barber, Jas, Strode Penny, and H. G. Hammond. Correspondence was road as follows : From H. Whitelow, Moutoa, complaining of the bad condition of the road. —To be repaired as soon as weather permits. Mr T. Bowe, Marotiri, complained of the state of the road leading to his property, and asked that a loan be raised for the purpose of improving it. —The Council decided to take steps to raise a loan of £7OO, and Cr. Barber and the Overseer were asked to define the area for special rating district. ENGINEER’S REPORT. Carnarvon Riding.—l have'" arranged with Air E. Algar to form, soil, and metal 9 chains of the Koputuroa road for the sum of £SO on the understanding that the work must ho completed Ibis month. Awahou Riding. —Very little progress has been made with metalling the Foxlqn-Shanuon road during the past month owing to the wet weather and bad roads to the metal supply. The motor lorry has not been able to supply 'the metal required, and I have let another contract to Mr Evans to supply metal at 11s per yard for (bo Foxton-, Shannon road, the contractor to use carls with 8-ineb tyres. Carnarvon, Kawa Kawa and Awahou Ridings.—-We have made fair progress with metalling the 'Foxtou-Saiison road daring the last few Weeks, and we are ifow making arrangements with the Railway Department for running a special ballast train for (be next two weeks for the purpose of supplying road metal, on the Foxton road below Motuiti. TRAMWAY; MANAGER’S REPORT. The traffic was lair, but owing to extra expenditure a debit balance of £52 3s is shown. The chief items of traffic were; Minerals 185 : | tons, merchandise 1581 tons, flax 27 trucks, timber ‘90,700 ft.; fares amounted to £3 Is 4d. The repairs to locomotive Rangitikei have been effected, and the locomotive Manawalii is at present in Foxton for minor repairs.
