Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, SEPT. 1, 1917. REVALUATION OF LAND IN THIS DISTRICT.

IN the House of Representatives, Mr W. H. Field, M.P., has given notice that he will ask the Minister in Charge of the Valuation Department, whether he will give instructions that all portions of the Dominion which have not been valued within (say) the past live years shall he revalued without delay, so that land taxation may in future fall as nearly as possible equitably throughout the country generally. It is hoped that the Minister will give favourable consideration to this request. As we previously pointed out, we were informed on reliable authority that one of the most fertile tracts of country in this district is valued for taxation purposes at £5 per acre, unimproved. This land, if subdivided, would sell like hot cakes at from £3O to £6O per acre, and is eminently suited for intense cultivation. Its valuation for taxation purposes is ridiculous extreme. It would not be difficult for Mr Field to give a

few quotations to the House from this district to show the necessity for a revaluation in order that taxation should he based more equitably than at present.
