A statement snowing the net expcmlihrre of the war up to March 31st last, has been presented to the House of Representatives by the Defence Minister. The statement is as follows; — Pay and allowances, £8,458,700. Transport of troops, including charter of steamers, meals, and fares of men travelling to join, freight, cartage, etc., £3,535,721. Allowances to wives of Imperial reservists residing in New Zealand, £5,099. Deposits for allotments through Post Offices in United Kingdom, £70,050. Discharged Soldiers’ Department, £3,424. The total net expenditure for war purposes was ns follows; — To December 31st, 1910, £14,557,177. From December 31s(, 1910, (o March 31st, 1017, £7,447,500. Grand total to March 31.-4, 1917, £22,004,083. There is expended under section 0 of the Public Revenues Amendment Act, 1915, the sum of £201,584 for relief purposes in Belgium and £IOO for similar purposes in New Zealand.
