THE WAR AND “SHIRKERS.”
A contention that there are many thousands o£ men in this euuntry who arc shirking 10-day was advanced hy Mr W. H. Field in the House of Representatives on Thursday night. “There are many men,” said Mr Field, “who have not registered, men who have been drawn in the ballot and have not responded.” Notwithstanding- this, however, the Government was taking the last son.- of widows, and men were being taken from their farms. If this continued the country would not he aide to stand it.
