ENEMY PROPERTY.
Thirty-live thousand returns of property in Britain held for enemies, or of debts due by British subjects to enemies, had been received by the Public Trustee up to March 31st. The •claims sent in by British subjects resident in the United Kingdom or in foreign countries to property in enemy territory, or against enemy subjects, numbered 40,000. Jn certain cases the orders of the Court have directed enemy property to be realised for the purpose of discharging debts to British subjects in this country. The orders of the Board of Trade have, however, been made mainly with a view to the elimination of enemy control of British companies and businesses. The total value of all property, including debts, so vested or transferred amounted to approximately £12,000,000. In addition, £2,000,000 were received in respect of the proceeds, or partial proceeds, of enemy capital in companies and businesses or amounts due to the enemy creditors of such in course of being wound up by the controllers.
