PETITION. FOE MAGIS f TR ATE’S REMOVAL. Dunedin, August 2. Strong dissatisfaction Avas expressed by the Balclutha branch of the Farmers’ Union with the attitude of Mr Aeheson, S.M., at the Assessment Court, which was held to be antagonistic to farmers. It was alleged that the idea of the Magistrate seemed to be to force objectors to put a selling value on their farms or else AvithdraAV their objections. It Avas resoh’ed: “That this meeting of farmers, being desirous of upholding the dignity of our Courts, regrets having to draw the attention of the Minister for Justice to the arbitrary and unjust maimer in which Mr Aeheson conducted the proceedings at a sitting of the Assessment Court in Balclutha.” It was further decided to petit ion the Minister to have Die Magistrate removed from the district.
