London, August 1. , A Victoria Cross has been awarded to a New Zealander, Lance-Cor-poral Samuel Friekletton, who was wounded while a party of attackers were cheeked unde/a heavy fire, hut dashed ahead of his section, pushed into the barrage, and personally bombed and destroyed a gun,'which was causing heavy easu- - altios. lie then attacked a second machine-gun, killing the whole crew of twelve. He undoubtedly saved his own and other units from the severest casualties by his magnificent courage, which ensured the capture off the objective. Lance-Corporal Friekletton, who was severely wounded while consolidating (lie position, set throughout a great example of heroism.
