THAMES DROWNING CASE.
BOYS CHARGED WITH .MURDER. Thames, August 3. In connection with the recentdrowning of Irene Quinn, a little girl, aged six years, two hoys were charged blfore Mr Rage. S.M., today, with murder. The accused are Ernest Claude Gibbons, aged eight, and Richard Reihana, aged ten. They were defended - by Messrs Clendon and Hogben respectively. Inspector Phair prosecuted. Evidence was given as at the inquest. It showed that the three children were seen near the bank of the Kirikiri creek on July-19th, and subsequently the boys were seen going home without the girl. Her dollies were subsequently found on the bank of the creek. The girl was unable to undress herself. Her body was recovered next day. The boys, when questioned, made statements incriminating each other. Counsel contended that there was no direct evidence to justify sending the boys to trial.
The magistrate considered there was a case for a jury, and committed the boys for trial at Auckland on August 13th, The boys were admitted to bail.
