POLITICAL POINTS.
PUTTEE TAX OVEKI3OAED. Wellington, Last Eight. Cabinet decided to-day, wires the eorrespondeul of the Palmerston Times, to instruct the iiepresentalion Commissioners to commence the readjustment of boundaries. It is anticipated that the South Island, owing to its having relatively smaller population than the Xorth Island since last census, will lose likely to be in the vicinity of Aueklikeup to be in the vicinity of Auckland. I understand the Government has deliuitely decided to abandon the butter-fat levy scheme, though no refund will he made on last season’s payments. The system, it is reported, did not work equitably in regard to the smallest factories, and placed a heavy tax upon the small suppliers who, in the oihnion of the Government, should in future he relieved, Condensed milk and dried milk factories are not likely to continue to escape participation in any new method of adjusting local prices. The nature, of the new scheme is not yet determined.
