SPEAKING of HALS. New Zealand at the welcome extended to him by the Now Zealand Club at Wellington yesterday, Sir -Joseph Ward said she had been through every sea light and had tired more shots than any other cruiser engaged in the light at Jutland. Admiral Halsey told him that. (Applause). He (Admiral Halsey) ascribed that to the mat given' him by the Maoris as an armour to be worn in serious work, and the Admiral had also told him that he wore that in the Jutland light, When Admiral Halsey left the New Zealand he left the mat to Captain Green, with the distinct understanding that he was always to wear it in battle; and he had done, so with signal effect. lie suggested that a similar present should be made to Captain Ilall-Tlioxnpson before' he left New Zealand for the Old Country. (Laughter and applause).
