MILLIONAIRES IN A NIGHT.
men OIL DISCOVERY IX THE STATES. Rich oilfields recently discovered in Okhihonm are making' millionaires over night of persons who a, lew years ago were as poor ns (he proverbial church mouse. Danny Tucker, a 10-year-old negro boy, was allotted some time ago 100 acres of rocky, hilly land, quite unlit for fanning. In 1015 one of the groat oil companies obtained a lease on the allotment, and the apparently worthless-land has consequently become one of the richest spots in Oklahoma. At first Danny Tucker received £-10 a month in royalties; in March, 101(i, it: had jumped to £1,200 a month, and now it is nearly £1,400 a month, and still going up. The wells give promise of long life. Although the coloured hoy is a prospective millionaire, he is paying little attention to anything but the feeding of Iho chickens on his father’s farm. Another romance concerns Sarah 'Rector, an 11-year-old orphan. It is estimated that she is already worth more than £OOO,000. Sarah and her younger brother each received a quarter section of apparently worthless farm land in the same way as Danny Tucker. The first month’s revenue from her allotment was approximately £4,000. There are now 18 wells on her land, and her income is about £2,000 a month. It is said that the little girl is now ill, and that she may not live to enjoy her wealth. A number of Indians and Negroes are already in the dollar-millionaire class.
