STILL 22,373 LEFT
ENOUGH FOR THREE MORE BALLOTS. A return prepared by the Government Statistieion (Mr Malcolm Fraser) slioavs that at the conclusion of the draAA'ing of the 9th Ballot on 30 th June there Avcre still 22.373 men left in the First Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve. The numbers remaining in the respective recruiting districts were as under; — Recruiting Dist. Ist Division No. Men Left. 1 Auckland City 3,757 2 Hauraki ’ 564 3 North Auckland 055 4 Waikato 1,015 5 Wellington City 2,079 0 MamiAvatn 924 7 Hawke’s Bay 1,023 S Taranaki 910 9 Christchurch 1,333 10 South Canterbury 785 11 North Conterbury 420 12 Nelson 709 13 Dunedin 1,507 11 Southland 1,178 15 North Otago,, 437 1.0 South Otago 352 17 Clutba 535 18 Wairarapa 804 10 Poverty Bay 701 20 Wanganui 707 : 21 West Coast 1,318 Total' 22,373 it is considered that with these 22.373 First Division men remaining there will be sufficient men for another three ballots, after which avi 1! come the revision of the sine die exemptions and re-examination of the medical rejects. The First Division should thus be exhausted by the 12lh Ballot, to be taken during the third week in September. As the revision of the exemptions and medical rejections is estimated to produce fully one, if not two, drafts, (lie taking of the next ballot, the 13th, will bo postponed accordingly, and should take place either in the second Aveek of November or December. .It umy safely he reckoned therefore llml the Jirst of the married men will be -called up in the 13tb Ballot, whieii Avill be held either in the second week of November or December, They will be called up for the draft parading two months later.
