ANTI-SHOUTING REGULATIONS.
QUESTION BY MR. FIELD, In the House, Mr W. H. Field asked the Alinister in Charge of the Police Department whether he will inform the House whether it has now been definitely ascertained that the anti-shouting legislation of 191 G is not capable of effective enforcement, it being desirable that this information shall be at the disposal of members in considering the question of substantially reducing the consumption of intoxicating liquor in this country. The Hon. Air Herdman (Alinister in charge of the Police Department) replied: It has not been ascertained that the anti-treating regulations are not callable of effective enforcement, and there is no reason for believing that they are not being enforced. A number of prosecutions for breaches of the regulations have taken place, und in many instances substantial flues have been inflicted, which are reported to have resulted in a better observance of the law. The police have special instructions to take steps to enforce the regulations.
