STATE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the local State School Committee was held last night. Present : Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Rev. J. H. Bredin, Hussey, Perreau, Parker, Read, and AleAlurray. An apology for absence was received from Mr Betty. The sub-committee’s action in accepting Mr Cook’s tender for asphalting the front path and assembly was endorsed. It was resolved to inform the Board that the balance of subsidy, £1 18s lid, due on money raised for installing hot water service in head-teacher’s residence. is to he expended on floor covering for teacher’s room and balance to library fund. Correspondence was read from the Board, stating that Mr Fraser had been asked to attend to repairs to roof, etc. —It was pointed out that Air Fraser had put the work in .hand, and would visit I lie school to-day and inspect the stoves. A letter in reply was received from (lie chief inspector, stating (hat school reports, records, etc., excepting those of a confidential nature to (eaeliers. and dealing with technicalities, were .open to the Committee. —Resolved to ask the head teaeher to submit inspector’s report at next Committee meeting, -The head teaeher reported that (lie average attendance for the quarter ending Juno 30th was 338.01, out of an average roll number of 370.10, being 01 per cent, of '(be possible. For winter months this is exeellent. The present roll number is 381. The term examination shows that the school work is proceeding very satisfactorily. Arbor Day. —Throe chains of hedge trees end several shrubs wore planted, and donations were received from the following: Messrs B. 11. Just und A. J. Similar (trees and shrubs), Mu Rose (throe loads of manure). A supply of (Mike was recommended.The school imd been thoroughly fumigated and disinfected. —The report was adopted, and it was decided to purchase half-a-ton of coke. The visitors (Messrs S. Road and J., Darker) reported at length, and suggested certain repairs and topdressing for liic tennis court, and that fresh specifications be drawn up for (he school cleaner. —Air Read was authorised to repair down pipe from tank .and pipe for Hushing boys’ urinal. —It was explained that* the conditions signed by the Committee and janitor were all that was necessary, and that the head teacher lie asked to report to the Chairman rc any complaints in this connection. Accounts were passed for payment. In reference to the account, from .(lie Borough Council for sanitation, £8 10s, it was resolved that (he Committee wait uponlhe Council and ask for its remission or roduetion. Messrs Rerreau and Woods were appointed visitors for the month.
