Manawatu Herald. SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 1917. WHAT CONSTITUTES THE EOXTON PATRIOTIC DISTRICT?

WHAT are the boundaries of the Eoxlon Patriotic district .- This question was asked by the Mayor at the last meeting of the Eoxlon Patriotic Society. No one present seemed to answer the question definitely. We believe the district is supposed to extend south to tho Maiiawalu river at Moutoa, as far as Oroua Downs north, and east to the Oroua bridge at Rangiotu. If this boundary is correct, and meets with the approval of the people in the territory, it would be possible for the Society to ascertain the scope and limitations of its operations. At present it appears that the Society’s affairs are, limited to Eoxlon, but if this is so the other districts mentioned are “no man’s land.” The .Mayor is anxious to draw up an ollicial roll containing the name of every man who has given his services to the Empire, the date of’ his leaving and return, nature of wounds, etc. t util the Society has a properly defined district, this cannot he done. \\ e would suggest that a conference of delegates be held, representing Eoxton. Moutoa, Oroua Downs and Rangiotu, to settle (his matter. So far as we are able to gather, Eoxlon is confining itself to the borough and immediate surroundings. Sums of money have been raistnl for Patriotic purposes at the other plain's, and each appears to be acting on its own. The Mayor of Palmerston said the Eoxton Society’s fund objective should be .Clo,ooo. This can only he possible provided (he districts mentioned combine and centralise its funds and control. But it: appears that the settlements outside Eoxton are contributing to the funds of other societies. The whole subject needs to he carefully considered and put on a definite basis,- and this can only he done by a conference of all concerned.
