CONSCRIPTION FOR MAORIS.

Auckland, June 14. A statement was ■ made by Sir James Allen to-day that the Government had decided to extend the Alilitavy Service Act to Maoris, being empowered to do so by section 50. Voluntary recruiting was not producing the men required to provide reinforcements for the Pioneer Battalion. While the Ala oris in most districts had responded splendidly the tribes in one district had sent practically no men lo the front.
