“MOVE ON!”
MORE LIKE LONDON EVERY DAY. Cr McMurray moved at last night’s Council meeting that the police be asked to keep the streets clear of persons who are under the influence of liquor, and that traflie on the footpaths be better controlled. The mover said that there were a, few men —centainly the number was not large —who came into (he town and were an absolute nuisance, and the police did not seem to take any notice of them whatever. The police, should see that these men were shifted out of the town or “run in.’’ On Saturday nights the footpaths at limes were partially blocked through people standing in groups. These people could just as easily stand on the si reel. Eoxlon was growing, and it was time the traffic was regulated. Cr Walker, who seconded the motion, said that whilst he agreed with some of what the mover had said, he did not think that Foxjon had advanced far enough to ask for the traffic to be regulated. Sometimes there was certainly a little block on (he footpaths caused mostly through two or three ladies with perambulators stopping to speak to each other. The Council certainly could not object to the perambulators. Cr. McCall: We want them all. The Mayor said he had not seen drunken men about the streets lately, but he certainly had not been about much. Cr Coley said that as far as he knew there was only one man that was a nuisance. The motion was carried.
