CARNIVAL NOTES.
The Carnival Committee acknowledges with thanks the following donations and promises to the fund, in addition to those acknowledged already: Airs C. E. Robinson £2 2s, Airs B. 0. Gower £5, Air F. Robinson £5, Air W. Buck £lO, Air R. N. Speirs £1 Is. * -* » * The following gentlemen have kindly consented to be gate-keepers for the day: Messrs I*. Skillcn, A. S. Walsh, J. Nowth and F. Alartin. The Committee is greatly indebted to them. * * * Airs Jenks and Airs W. Signal are helping Airs A. S. Easton at tlie Flower Stall. Airs Easton reports that two canaries have been given her for sale. One is to be disposed of by a guessing competition—guessing the takings of the stall. Hurry up and get your guess in early. Airs •Jenks is in charge of the competition, 0d a guess. .V yellow warbler is an ornament in any home. »• « •* Alessrs A. AI. Scott and \V. Scott, both of Oroita Downs, have promised to assist with (he horse events, Many thank.- to them. -* It has been decided to have two classes in the decorated events for children —hoys ami girls. Prizes will be given in each class, *■ * * if' Mr R. J. Thompson lias given a grade Jersey weauer heifer calf. Many thanks to him. » ? * * The array of good tilings for competition far exceeds those of any oilier event in the district. * ■:« * Come and make the Carnival a success. To owners of motor ears! There is to be a competition for the best decorated ear, and Airs Alandl offers a prize of a guinea for the Jirst prize. Gifts continue to roll in. Air Heasman, our local tailor, has offered a pair of trousers, made to measure, value 355, to lie allocated as the executive thinks best. *• * » * The Borough Band has kindly offered it- services on the eventful Carnival Day. Their help and support will be appreciated.
In the decorated pony event, a medal presented by Mr P. C. Jackson will be given to the best decorated pony and rider.
THE CONCERT,
The programme in connection with liie Carnival Concert constitutes a feast of good things. The first half will consist of items by the following; The Maori trio, Miss Lauvig, Mrs Cibson, .Mr Bishop, Miss M. Hanlon (Wellington), Miss Aiteheson (a humorous sketch), and an elocutionary item by little Miss Andrews. The second half will be provided by the Palmerston All Black entertainers. Mr Betty’s orchestra will contribute two selections. Mi.-s Betty will be the accompanist.
