PATRIOTIC SHOP.
The Patriotic Shop was open as usual on Saturday last, when good business was done. The guessing competition for a cake was won by Koy Bullard, who guessed the correct number of beans (3(10), and Mr fugle won the quoits competition for a duck. Gifts are gratefully acknowledged from: Mesdames A. Boss, Signal, Barr, G. Huntley, Kollow, Fraser, Harvey, F. Bobinson, Burnett, John Boss, Chas. Symons, Jas. Bobinbon, McLeod, 11. Satherley, D. Purcell, Bailie, A. S. Easton, Misses Signal, Speirs, Thynne, Boss, Messrs Bullard, G. Huntley, E, de Bidder, Galland, Jas. Boss and P. AV. Brown. A big day is being arranged for Saturday next, when the men will take charge of the shot). All manner of competitions are being arranged, and Mr Geo. Langley has kindly lent his large marquee, which will be erected on the vacant section behind the shop, and competitions and side shows conducted therein. A local gentleman has donated a sack of coal, and the person who guesses the donor’s name takes, the coal. Mrs A. S. Easton has given a dressed, stuffed turkey, which should attract good competition, “while Mrs AV. E. Barber, and the Estate of Henry Barber have given sheep, which will be used as a weight guessing competition, and some of the meat will be sold. The Borough Baud has kindly consented to play selections during the evening. The usual supply of Motueka apples will be on sale. Messrs AV. E. Barber and H, Crawley will open the campaign at !J a,.in., and relays of helpers will carry on all day and into the night, and will cease operations when no money is left. All the proceeds will be given to the Ladies' Patriotic Guild, and their work is too well known to need any comment.
