Thursday next will he Empire Day. At the request of the Wanganui Education Board, the day will he celebrated in a suitable Avay at the schools, and the t allowing programme is recommended;— (I) Assembly; (2) National Anthem; (3) Subbing of the Hug; 1-1) addresses, which should naturally refer iu part to the European War, and the pari the New Zealanders, Australians, and Canadians are taking in it, ihe desire for peace Avith honour. Imperial defence, naval and laud defence of our own country, to the resources, history and development of New Zealand, and to the duties of all good citizens; (5) patriotic songs, readings, and recitations; ((I) lessons from history; (7) lessons on (he geography of the Empire, and the European War: (8) lessons on civics; (0) parade of cadets (where such are attached to the school), or physical exercises with instruction iu health in relation to efficiency and enjoyment.

1.1 is suggested that the head teacher should confer will: the Committee with a view to making the celebration worthy of the occasion. The topics above enumerated may he distributed throughout the school day as head teachers may determine, hut the Board requires that the instruction for the day shall he devoted mainly to the inculcation of the patriotic virtues and sentiments.
