Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, MAY 17, 1917. HORTICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
THE annual meeting of members of the above will be held in the sup-per-room of the Town Hall this evening. It is hoped that there will be a good attendance of members and intending members. According to Foxlon precedent, this important and educational association should have become defunct long ago, but. it continues full of vigour and vitality as (he exception. The reason for the Society’s vitality is due to the enthusiasm displayed by the executive, the majority of whom are keen horitcult ura lists. The public, too, have given a generous support to the institution, and the exhibitions are always well patronised. The Society is deserving of support because of its educational value to the community in the cultivation of flowers, fruit and vegetables, and its existence has done much to beautify many homes. The shows demonstrate what the Eoxton soil is capable of .producing, and what is.necessary to obtain the best results from garden and orchard. The membership, however, while satisfactory as compared with similar societies, is,not as large as it should be, and the executive would like to see a minimum of one hundred in order to assure its finances. The public can, 'in this connection, display its appreciation of the Society’s good • work. The small amount fixed, viz., ss, is with-in-reach of all, and entitles free admission to the three shows for husband and wife and children under 12 years of age. We hope ail who can make it convenient will attend the annual meeting this evening and do what they can to foster and encourage this deserving local institution.
