SHEEP-STEALING CASE.
-V verdict of guilty was returned by ihe jury in the Supreme Court, Wel.ington, in the cuse of William Southee and David Southee, charged with sheep-stealing at Akatarawa. As regards the younger of the two brothers —David —there was a recommendation for mercy on account of his age.' 'Mr .Justice Edwards admitted him to probation for two years. Sentence on the other accused was meted out in the form of 18 months’ hard labour. His Honour commented that the act was a deliberate one. More than that, the probation officer gave him a bad record, asserting that he was a 'reputed thief.
