THE ROUND BUSH.

PROTESTS AGAINST ITS DESTRUCTION. In conversation with our representative yesterday, Mr F. E. •leaks, late member of the Foxlon Harbour Board, said he hoped (he Board would not sanction (he destruction of (he Round Bush-at Motuiti. He said had he been on the Board he would strongly oppose any such suggestion. In any case, he said, he'questioned whether the Marine Department would allow-the removal of this coastal laud-mark, which appeared on all charts. Another resident, of 35 years standing, waited upon us yesterday and urged that a strong protest should be made against the destruction of the bush, on the grounds that it was the only piece of natural bush in the district with a wealth of young native trees, also that the bush is a safeguard against sand drift. He repudiates the statement (hat the bush is dyingout. He recently visited (he locality, and said I lie bush is as green and as nourishing as ever it was, and (here are thousands of young native trees and shrubs growing there which could be transplanted for beautifying other localities. He is of opinion that the other portion of the.reserve could be greatly improved for dairying purposes without interfering wilh the hush.
