MILITARY SERVICE BOARD.
LOCAL CASES. The following district appeals were dealt with at the sitting of the first Wellington Military Appeal Board at Palmerston North this week; — William Henry Smith, farmer, Moutoa (Mr Cooper), whose appeal had been previously heal’d and adjourned sine die but subject to revision in three months’ time. Appellant said his position was practically the same as when he appeared before.
To Captain Walker: He had three brothers, flis elder brother was in camp, and another was married and m Poxlon. The third brother was ■ingle as far as witness knew, but had been away from home for years. Appellant said be had milked HSO cows at the height of the season, but only 80 were in milk now. He had two men to assist him, one of whom was a (‘ripple. He had another man digging potatoes, there being about seven acres in (he crop. He was preparing 2b acres of ground for wheal at (he instance of the Government, but would sow more if possible'. The appeal was adjourned sine die, on the understanding that he remains in the same occupation, and reports to the Group Commander monthly. The appeal of Kdward Canned, flaxmill worker, Moutoa, was dismissed as appellant did not appear. In the appeal of 1C .1. Wilton, farmer, Orona Downs, (he Board reserved its decision sine die on the usual condition (hat he remains in his present occupation. George Judd, farmer, Shannon (Mr Cooper), who appealed in dannary and whose appeal was adjourned. again appeared, and said his position was just the same as in •January. To Captain Walker: There were eight brothers and four sisters in the family. One brother was on active service, and another brolher had been turned down and was now managing a farm in the Shannon district, but was likely to be called up for home service at any time. Appellant was milking 25 cows at present. Mis father had his own farm at Tokomaru. Appellant did not think he could employ a man in his place, as it took him all his time to keep things going now. To the chairman: If (.he Government desired it, he could grow from 15 to 20 acres of wheat. To Captain Walker: He had a. brother who had volunteered, but had not been ealied up yet. ■Judgment was reserved until the •lune silling In Palmerston North, provided his brother Roland David goes into camp before that date. The appeal of dames William McAlister, heard previously, was adjourned so that appellant could be again examined.
