Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 1917. SUICIDE OP SOLDIERS.

THE suicides which have occurred in military camps were recently the subject of a communication sent by a Christchurch union to the Minister for Defence, Sir James Allen. The Minister lias forwarded the following reply; —‘T have had inquiries made in regard to suicides of soldiers and have had the inquest proceedings searched with a view to ascertaining the causes. Out of nine suicides which have occurred, two appear to have been due to alcoholism, one case followed ’on an epileptic lit, one was due to private worry, and one to mental derangement. In the four remaining cases there was nothing in the evidence to indicate the reason for the act.”
