“THE REBELLIOUS FEW.”
THE Attorney-General, the Hon. A. L. Hcrdman, in an intervieAv at Napier, said: —“Since the outbreak of Avar the people of Ncav Zealand
have, except a rebellious few, worked with great singleness of purpose and with wonderful zeal. A small misguided and mischievous section of the community has endeavoured to foment strife and to thwart the efforts of the Government to secure soldiers and to despatch produce required by the Imperial Government. It has persistently and diligently striven to sully the fair name of New Zealand by playing the game of the enemy. But it is numerically weak, and its sentiments and methods are deeply resented by every man having a spark of loyal feeling in his being. The Government is determined that no mischiefmaker shall be allowed fo interfere with the proper prosecution of the war. Political grievances can be ventilated after the Avar is over. The duty of every man at the present time is to see that nothing that will secure victory to the allies is leftundone. To-day there can exist in New Zealand only two classes — those who are for England and those who are against her. For the safety of the nation the latter class must he treated as enemies of the Stale.”
