CATHOLIC ENLISTMENTS.
Wellington, April I.
When two appeals for exemption of Catholic priests came before the .Military Service Board, Mr Considine, a member of the Board, said representations had been made to him that Catholics had not gone to the front in their proper quota. He understood Mr O’Leary, counsel for Archbishop O'Shea, had said that 14,1)00 Catholics had gone. 'Mr O’Leary said his statement was based on representations to him that 14 Catholic chaplains had gone, and one went with every thousand Catholics.
Mr Considine pointed out; that j his would mean that the Catholics had sent more than their quota. He added that of the Catholics who had gone from New Zealand the deaths wen* 17 per cent., while of others the deaths were 14 per cent.
