BREACH OF BY-LAWS.
At yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate’s Court the Inspector of Nuisances (James . McKnight) charged Denis McCauley with committing a breach of the borough bylaws by allowing wash-house water to flow into a borough drain. Defendant did not appear. The Town Clerk, who appeared for (he Borough Council, saiil the case bad been brought because defendant, after several notifications, had done nothing lu remedy the evil. Since the summons had been issued, however, he had discontinued the practice. Under the circumslanees he asked (hat a conviction only be entered, which would act as a warning to others. The Magistrate said that where people took no notice of warnings and only carried out instructions after proceedings were commenced lie did not think they should get off altogether without a penalty. Defendant would be convicted and ordered to pay costs 7s.
