SECOND DIVISION MEN.

STATEMENT BY SIR JAMES ALLEN. Sir James Allen told a deuptation last evening (hat he knew there was a considerable amount of anxiety amongst men of the Second Division under the Military Service Act, and many of them were very anxious to make preparations to do their share. He did not for a. moment want to say anything against that. It was right that a man should look to the possibilities of the future and attempt to make preparation for them. He Imped, however, that: they would not be hasty in any action they might take —and he spoke especially to those engaged in (he essential industries of the country; because they might make sacrifices which were obviously against their own interests, and might be against the interests of the Stale. They hoped that it would not, he necessary to call upon the Second Division. At the same time it was impossible for him or anybody else to say whether the war would end this summer or not. It was proper that we should look forward to the possibility of another winter and another summer of war. If that should happen the Second division would he called up; but, as far as he could see now, it was not likely lo be called upon for at least six months; it might he longer. That would give ample time for the making of preparations.
