NATIVES CHARGED WITH MURDER.

The accidental discovery of a male skeleton in (he hush in I lie Victoria Valley between Kaitaia and Ilokianga about a fortnight ago has led to a dramatic sequel. Eight Maoris, five men and three women, have been arrested on a charge of murdering Constable Soft on, of Kaitaia. At the time of the discovery it was staled that the remains were those of Mitai Aperahana. whose death occurred in .August, 1913. The body evidently had been buried near the surface of (he ground as the skeleton had become exposed. The message further slated that there was suspicions of; foul play and that a good many persons might he found to have been concerned in the alleged assault upon deceased.
Detective Cummings went to Kaitaia a week ago to investigate, with the result that the arrests were made. An inquest will be held next Wednesday at Kaitaia.
