HOUSEHOLD HINTS.

A slice of fresh lemon passed across the forehead and temples once or twice will often alleviate and sometimes quite cure a nervous headache. It invariably gives relief and is quite harmless. Burnt saucepans should never he filled with soda-water, or they’ll burn again; use salt and water instead, and leave until the next day, then bring slowly to the boil, when the burnt portion will come quite clean. To clean white satin shoes, rub them the lengthway of the satin with a clean, white flannel that has been dipped in spirits of wine. If only slightly soiled they can be cleaned by simply rubbing them with stale bread.

To sweeten a stuffy room, ha.ug some newly-washed and starched white clothes to dry, opening both door and window for a few hours. The room will be beautifully clear and fresh, as after spring cleaning, the starch having absorbed the smell.

A good way to keep the air of a room fresh and slightly perfumed is to place a jar in some inconspicuous place in the room and put in the jar a small block of ammonia, over which pour some ordinary Cologne water. This makes a faint, pleasant odour, of which one is hardiv conscious.

Taints of many descriptions are often (mused by using unclean milk for the manufacture of dairy products. In butter-making, the cream from unclean milk does not ripen sa isfactorily, and this causes an unpleasant flavour in the butter. In cheese-making, the curd from dirty milk is often of a spongy character, causing the cheese to become inflated with gas, instea'd of ripening normally.
