ST. PATRICK’S NATIONAL CONCERT.

The Grand National Concert, held under the auspices of St. Mary’s Church, Foxton, last night, was a. great success. The programme submitted was received with very marked appreciation by a good audience, and much pleasure and satisfaction was expressed at the quality of the entertainment. Of the wide variety of items submitted, all .were encored, and in some instances repeated demands were made on contributors for returns, the audience in these instances being almost insatiable. Of the various contributions, it seems invidious to particularise, but special mention may be made of the items of Miss Tabor, of Palmerston N., who showed great ability and versatility in her comic contributions and monologues, Mr Berryman, also of Palmerston N., was considered a contributor much above the average ability, and created a decided impression with his cornet solos and bis drum solo, with band The Maori ragtime trio were an attractive troupe, and their contributions were decidedly well given, the audience exhibiting great pleasure and a repeated demand for encores. The remainder of tiie contributors were all in good voice, and enhanced their previous reputations with well rendered items, tlie* following programme indicating the varied nature of the entertainment; The Foxton Orchestra opened with a good rendering of the march, “King Sol,” which was followed by a chorus by the Convent pupils, executed in a manner which indicated careful training. Such local favourites as Miss Signal (“Little Bit of Heaven”), Mr \V. Hooker (“When I Dream of Old Ireland"), Mrs Gilder (“Husheen”), Miss Bryant, Mr Aitken (“(Mother Machree”), contributed pleasing items in 1 lie iirsl half, and Miss Tabor (comic song)’ Mr Hakaraia (comic song), Messrs Hakaraia (2) and Klees (ragtime trio), and .Mr Berryman (cornet solo), completed ilia! portion. In the second half, the Foxton Orchestra again opened with a march, “ Carronade, ” and the Convent pupils rendered nicely a chorus. Mr Aitken sang “A Sergeant of the Line,” Miss Doris McLeod executed the Highland Fling in a graceful ami pleasing manner, Mr W. Hooker sang “Wait till the Clouds go By,” Miss Tabor contributed a monologue, a drum solo with Baud accompaniment was given by Mr Berryman, Mr Hakaraia a song, a ragtime trio by Messrs Hakaraia (2) and Klees, completed the entertainment. Mr P. G. Jackson thanked those who had contributed in any way to the .-access of. tiie entertainment, and made special mention of tin* departure of Miss While from Foxton, which would be much regretted, as -lie laid been of great assistance in previous church concerts, as she had in. the present entertainment.

A dance was held tit the (rinse of tin l concert, when it good number oi' dancers tripped lightly to excellent, music Mtpplied by Aliss ’White and Miss Lettilntn. Air S. Hudson oldciated as M.C. A good supper was prepared by the ladies of St. Mary’s congregation, and altogether a very pleasant time was spent by dancers until the early hours of this morning. The concert was a success tinancialiy and in every other respect, and for this praise is due to the efforts of the secretary, Mr I’. (1. Jackson, whose organising ability was responsible for Hie entertainment passing off with .-moothness and expedition.
