A SEVERE PENALTY.
Auckland, March 13. At the Police Court, Mr Cutten, S.M., sentenced Oliver Xoakes, a waterside]', to eleven months’ imprisonment for a breach of the additional war regulations in publishing an utterance intended to interfere with the proper unloading of the steamer Westralia. The Magistrate found that there Avas an understanding on the part of a section of (he Avalersiders not to engage for Avork before 8 a.m., Avhereas the award time Avas 7.30, and that when an ex-president broke the understanding before 8 a .m. defendant made a remark to him, Avhich the Magistrate considered to he a threat. The Magistrate held that the remark Avas intended to delay engagement until 8 a.m., consequently there Ava* a delay in unloading the vessel.
