COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATIONS. At las! night's Borough Council meeting, tho Mayor and Crs Coley and Henderson submitted the following report re acquiring the water rights over the conservation area at Shannon, for a water supply scheme for Eoxloti: — “We beg to report that in accordance with the resolution of the Council, we visited the source of the proposed high pressure water supply for the Eoxton borough on Tuesday, 20th February last. We followed the course of the Otarea stream to the site of the proposed dam, and for a mile or so above this. We found that the stream contained a plentiful supply of water, and in the opinion of Councillors Coley and Henderson, who had previously visited the site, a larger supply existed than at the lime that this matter was reported on by Mr Chenery Suggate, of Auckland.
“We would recommend thul stops ho tiikou to ascertain the cost oi; acquiring- the water rights over the ociiservjilion area." Cr Coley said there was more water at the locality than when the previous visit was made. Fires, however, had destroyed much of the standing- hush. The report was carried unanimouslv.
