MARAROA ASHORE.

Between Pencarrow and Palliser Bay. No Lives Lost. Wellington, This Afternoon. The Mararoa (2,598 tons, Capt. Manning) went ashore at 8 o’clock this morning during a heavy fog, between Pencarrow Head and Palliser Bay. The stem of the vessel is in four fathoms of water. Apparently there is no loss of life. The Maranui and Westmeath are standing by. Two tugs went out to the illfated vessel’s assistance this morning. The sea is calm. A telephone message from Kiddiford's station says the passengers aboard are safe. The Maraia »a was running in the Wellington-Lyttelton ferry service in conjunction with the Maori, and was due in Wellington from Lyttelton at 8 o’clock this morning. No further details are yet to hand.
