SUNDAY TRADING.
tSUFT DRINKS SALES BARRED
Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., delivered Ids reserved judgment at Wellington on Thursday in the case brought by the police against Walter ilohuul (dates, proprietor oi' the Crystal Bar, Willis Street, Wellington, lor keeping open ids premises on Sunday lor the purpose ol trading, contrary to the provisions ol section 17 ol the Police Offences Act, .IDDIS.
“In my opinion," said Ids Worship, “defendant's railing is neither a work ol necessity nor charity. II defendant can ply his calling on the Sunday, why should not all provision shops be kept open lo supply the needs ol improvident housekeepers? The eases ol tearooms and suchlike places at seaside resorts arc not in the same category as defendant's calling. At these places hundreds, if not thousands, gather on the Sunday, and they are miles away from their respective homes. These eases can be dealt with when they arise. The defendant will he convicted and lined 11, and ordered lo pay the costs, 75."
